Comment or story:      My grandfather has a colostomy bag and also suffers from moderate dementia, which complicates the colostomy bag situation immensely.
Sometimes he forgets WHY he has the colostomy bag, or he decides to empty and wash it in the sink, or he gets angry about it and the contents end up everywhere, which is a huge foul mess for my poor 92-year-old grandmother to clean up.
Currently he has the adhesive-type attachment. I was wondering if any of you knew of an attachment that is difficult for him to remove but easy for my grandma or any other caregiver to take off.
Any suggestions? My grandmother's about at the end of her rope.

Comment or story:      My father just had his radical cystectomy surgery in July. He is getting really frustrated by the duration of the drainage from his urethra.
How long does this last. His doctors and nurese all say it will just stop....but how long? This is the part of his recovery that is most affecting his sense of progress. Thanks for any input or ideas on how to deal with this

Comment or story:      My Mom (at almost 90 years old), had her colon removed.  Dr. Glass determined it would not "reattach" properly, during a minor invasive surgery for bleeding from diverticulitis.
This has caused Mom to live in a nursing home, because her 90 year old husband cannot handle (understandably) the day to day work of attending to her bag. She was only allowed a min. of visits from nurses, and attendants, with Medicare.
Our dilemma right now, is allowing her visit her home, restaurants, & relatives, without the horrid "leaking", or "bursting" bag, which she has had occur multiple times.  Also, her husband ascertained that not having elastic banded slacks resting on her bag, helped the control of leaks/bursts.
We have not heard anything from The Indianapolis. Chapter of your organization, thus I am writing to you folks, and I'm happy to be a member of an active, and obviously caring group!

Comment or story:      My son just had colectomy due to u.c. that he has had for only a year. Complications from medicines led us to Mayo and was also advised that he has Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis of the liver. He is just 17. We would love any info on ileostomy and the liver disease and also on the takedown surgery as he is scheduled to have it reversed in June right now he is fighting a very infected ulcer around his stoma due to prednisone..he is now off that and is healing. Are there any other kids out there he would love to hear from you too...thanks and God bless
