Comment or story:      My daughter, Natalie, was born on October 19th, 2007, with no anus. She was taken to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital only a few hors after birth. Two days later, she had a colostomy. They are going to be able to fix it when she's about 18 months old. She has a few other minor problems, nothing life threatening, that require surgery to. All together there will be about 3 surgeries for her to go through. I'm just looking for someone to talk to that is going through, or has gone through the same thing. She is the only baby born in my town with this problem so it's really hard to talk to anyone about it.

Comment or story:      I usually wear a metaspore (I probably spelled this wrong) on a daily basis, post irrigation, while these patches are great under your clothes, gym work, and all around very comfortable, they are not good for swimming. (spongy part can't be exposed to water) Any advice out there for type of non-bag covering or patch that would work for this?

Comment or story:      Hi, I'm 48 and had a permanent colostomy in 2/02 due to colorectal cancer. No big deal to me! I'm alive to see my beautiful grandchildren and I can't ask for anything more special than that can I? It also helps to have a good sense of humor! I also irrigate, which has been a big help. Most days I just wear a band-aid over my stoma and do whatever I want to do. I urge anyone that is a cadidate for irrigation to go for it! I would love to hear from anyone, especially anyone near my home state of Alabama! God Bless.

Comment or story:     Hi!  I had my Op at the end of 1999 - just before the new Millennium.  I have an ACE pin and have to irrigate every day to empty the bowels.
If anyone wants to contact me for help and reassurance with this procedure, please get in touch!

Comment or story:     I have been irrigating for two years.   I've just figured out what to do but I know that there are some brilliant ideas out there.
I wear a drainable because I sometimes get back flow the morning I irrigate.
I've just read to cut back on the water. Which I'll do.
I clean the sleeve out by filling up the irrigating bad with cold water and white vinegar.
That doesn't quite do the whole job but not bad.
Any other ideas I'm missing.

Comment or story:     Permanent colostomy Oct. 1, 2001, chemo & radiation for six months, started irrigation after 9 months -- a godsend. This has changed my quality of life dramatically -- no more bags!! I encourage everyone with a sigmoid or descending colostomy to look into this.
