| Comment or story: | I have been in the market for a good visual to teach how ostomy surgery changes the body...have any of you ever seen one of these? |

| Comment or story: | I am a fairly new CWON and I have a patient who has a urostomy and her mucous is clogging the urine in the top half of her pouch, not draining into the pouch. Any suggestions, aside from opening up the outlet area inside her ouch? Is the any dietary things that could be causing the increased mucous? If I am not in the correct area, please direct me where to go. Thanks. Linda RN |

| Comment or story: | I'm an RN
here in Louisville KY. And last night I found out that one of my friends
whom I work with has a ileostomy. Randy is the coolest nurse I have worked
with on night shift. He said he has it for 7 years after suffering from UC.
As he tells me his story, he cracks jokes about it...we laughed...and he
said it was one of the reasons why he wanted to be a nurse. He probably
told the same story to his other friends but it has a different impact on
me. I was really touched (but I was trying to hold back the tears) His
positive outlook and perspective in life makes him a wonderful person. I
love working with him...but now I love him more because of his ileostomy. I
think it's sexy :) I just wonder if he has a name for his stoma... The articles & stories I read here are inspirational. Thanks for sharing them. |

| Comment or story: | I am currently a nursing student in Minnesota and doing research on colostomy's and ileostomy's. Looking for personal info from people vs. getting info out of a book. Looking for comments on peoples diet/water restrictions or consumption after surgery and during recuperation. Also wondering what foods if any change the color of stools, and any other info that anyone would like to share would be great! |

| Comment or story: | I have been taking care of a patient with a prolapsed ileostomy. The stoma protrudes out into the pouch and lays on the plastic ring of the wafer. This causes a crease and subsequent irritation and bleeding. I have recommended that she address this prolapse with the physician to see if surgical revision is a possibility. A one piece Active Life Durahesive pouch to eliminate the ring was suggested along with mineral oil or castor oil to lubricate the inside of the pouch. Any other suggestions? |

| Comment or story: | I will be seeing a colostomate who irrigates and is c/o bleeding stoma in the outpatient setting. In the past these "ulcers" have been cauterized by silver nitrate sticks. Personally, I have never done this (New ET). Under what circumstances would you silver nitrate "ulcers" on the stoma. I would prefer to send pt back to surgeon for revision if this is needed or treatment of underlying cause. Questioning her irrigation practices could also enlighten me. |

| Comment or story: | I am a care giver for a lady with an ileostomy and would like some recipes for a bland diet, and she needs more fiber than she is getting. Just oatmeal in the morning, white bread 3 slices a day ( she s\won't eat wholle wheat) I tried pretzels they work great, but need more snacks with fiber. Any suggestions will be appreciated. |

| Comment or story: | I am a CWOCN ( the new designation for ET nurse). I am interested in what has been helpful information to any type of ostomate that I cpould pass on to my patients; especially the "day to day" info ( odor control, success of failure with irrigation, how you empty your pouch, closed end vs drainable etc. |
